Foods That Can Give You Whiter Teeth
Keeping your teeth white after a tooth whitening session might mean avoiding certain foods or drinks, like curries or wine, but you might be happy to learn that you can also indulge a little more freely in other foods. These foods are known to give you whiter teeth or help keep your teeth whiter for longer.
1. Green tea
Tea can stain your teeth, but green tea might actually have some powerful protective benefits. Tannins prevent bacteria from sticking to your teeth and polyphenols combat oral acids and enamel erosion.
Cheese is a good source of calcium to keep your enamel strong, but it also helps prevent enamel erosion and discoloration by combating oral acidity.
3. Crunchy and abrasive foods
Apples, pears and other fibrous fruits and vegetables, along with seeds and nuts, can help mechanically scrub your teeth and remove plaque and other stain-causing substances.
These flavorful berries are high in vitamin C, which is good for your gum health, but they are also full of an enzyme called malic acid, which cleans stains off the teeth. This makes them a powerful natural whitening treat that can be enjoyed a few times a week.
5. Dark chocolate
Dark chocolate is a source of theobromine, which hardens the enamel on your teeth, preventing stains from reaching the inner structures. This reduces the risk of discoloration. Milk chocolate does not have the same effect because it contains milk and sugar, which can increase oral acidity levels, leading to enamel erosion.
