Making Your Dental Crowns Shine Like Royal Crowns

Posted .

We stand by the immaculate work we perform in our office, and a dental crown from Dr. Alan L. Frame can be depended on to last for years to come. However, every oral cavity is one-of-a-kind, and everyone experiences different things, so crowns occasionally need to be replaced or repaired. Here are some tips you can follow to keep your crown(s) safe and strong:

Depending on the type of crown that we’ve fitted, your crown could chip. (It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.) Fortunately, this can usually be fixed in our office. A crown with too many chips will need to be replaced. Look out for ice and hard candy, two foods that cause teeth to chip and crack.

Another possibility is the cement underneath a loose crown washing away without the crown falling out, leaving a space for bacterial acids to eat away at your pearly whites. If you notice any sort of looseness, odd discoloring or aromas around a tooth with a crown, let us know right away.

Lastly, crowns can fall out of place. If one of your crowns falls out, do not attempt to put it back in yourself. (Without the glue to hold the crown onto your tooth, it would just fall out again, and that could choke you.) Instead, place the crown somewhere safe and bring it to us as soon as possible so we can work on getting you a new crown.
